Born and raised in Tanzania but now calling Mparntwe (Alice Springs) home, Katanga Junior is an exciting, charismatic artist who has captivated audiences across the Territory since arriving five years ago. Seamlessly integrating himself into the local music scene, Junior has developed a dedicated fan base thanks to his distinctively deep voice, smooth flow and multilingual lyrics. Incorporating hip-hop, reggae, afrobeat and indie-folk sounds, Katanga cannot be pigeonholed as a creative and audiences love him all the more for it. 2024 was a HUGE year for Katanga Junior, releasing his collaborative album Pamoja, playing Nannup Music Festival and WOMADelaide as part of the Pamoja Tour, headlining Wide Open Space Festival, opening for Cat Empire at the closing of Darwin Festival and winning Blues n Roots Song of the Year at the Northern Territory Music Awards. 2025 looks set to be even bigger with a return to East Africa to kick the year off before releasing Tanzania, the first single of forthcoming EP Bongo, in early January. The track, an upbeat, afrobeat ode to his homeland, is co-produced with rising Tanzanian music star Foxx, who has worked on each of the five-tracks that make up this exciting release. Bongo is due for release in late April, 2025.
